Environmentally Concious

We pride ourselves in being an environmentally concious family. We turn the lights off. We only have one car. We conserve water. And, yes, we recycle.

We were doing a little ladies grooming the other night: clipping, filing, painting and so on.
In order to prevent clipped nails from scattering all over the carpet (discovering clipped nails on the floor grosses me out... I get it from my dad), I had collected the nail clippings in a little pile on my leg.

Little helpful Lily quickly brushed them into her hand, held them proudly, and said,
"Mom, I'll throw these away."

"Garbage or recycle?"

Totally awesome.

The Truth Hurts

Yesterday was hot.

So, Sophie, Lily, and I went to Bop and Suzie's for a little wading pool time with cousin Katie. Emma, in all her 9-year old coolness, was with a friend at another pool.

Now, you have never seen two bodies that look better in swimming suits than Lily and Sophie.
Lily looks like a bronzed 5-year old body builder.
And, Sophie, oh Sophie. Let's just say that even at 7, Sophie was meant to be in a swimming suit. She has this beautiful, long, lean, sun-kissed bod.
Admiring their georgeousness led us to this conversation...

Me: Lily, have I ever told you how much I love your butt.
Lily: Yes.
Me: You have the cutest butt.

Me: Sophie, have I ever told you how much I love your butt.
You have the cutest butt.
Sophie: Mom, have I ever told you that you have the cutest...
(lots of thought and sincere pondering)....

pony-tail.

Oh, the truth hurts.

Destroying my Children's Virtue

So, I had a wedding shower yesterday. A cute family shower for a cousin's bride-to-be.
The theme was "Firsts". Darling idea.
My gift assignment was "First Game Night".
Now, I don't know about you, but there was only one thing that came to mind.

Strip Poker.

Seriously, what other game are you going to play your first year of marriage. It was a perfect fit. All I needed:
1. a set of cards
2. lingerie
My obstable:
shopping for said items with three young children in tow.

I attempted it anyways. Here is how it went...

(We enter the lingerie section)
Emma: Mom, what ARE these?
Me: They're nightgowns.
Emma: NO THEY'RE NOT! They are WAY to short for night gowns! They are like grown-up nightgowns but in my size!
Sophie: Mom, these are not modest.
Emma: Why are you buying these, Mom.
Sophie: Mom, these are not modest.
Me: I'm buying it for a wedding shower gift.
Emma: But, Mom. These are too short. They are not nightgowns. They won't fit.
Sophie: Mom, these are not modest.
Me: I promise, it's ok.
Emma: I don't think they'll fit. I've never seen nightgowns like these.
Sophie: Mom, these are not modest.
Me: GIRLS! When you get married, sometimes you get special nightgowns. They are special just-getting-married nightgowns.

Seriously, I said "special just-getting-married" nightgowns.

Lily: (A few feet away, slowly stroking a silky, chiffony, very skimpy "nightgown")
Mom, I like THIS one!

Nice parenting skill, meg.
